Linseed based oils

For surface finishing, we use linseed-based oils. These take longer to dry but produce an excellent finish. After the first coat is applied, the piece is allowed to dry for a few days. The surface is then sanded down before a second coat is applied. This dries to give a velvet-smooth surface. The finish is completely renewable and allows the natural beauty of the wood to come through. Pictured is an Alva oak table finished with linseed oil.

Painting

For painting, egg tempera paint is used. It is an old-fashioned classic paint that provides a beautiful flat matt finish that cannot be achieved using modern paints. Painting masters of the middle ages used egg tempera. These artists were able to achieve fine details and brilliant colors using this material which has lasted beautifully through the centuries. Egg tempera takes a very long time to dry and the furniture is not dispatched until a month after painting. The surface will be fully dry after a year or so. The tempera finish retains contact with the material and ages beautifully and naturally. Pictured is an Ardre table with a white tempera painted frame/legs.

Soaped limestone

All limestone tops are soaped which gives the surface a matte finish but retains the unique pale character of the Gotland stone. The limestone may contain visible fossils, small grooves and minor pits, all parts of the natural stone.
